글렌체크 (Glen Check)-4ever

[마빈 게이가 남긴 말로 시작해보려 한다. “진정한 예술가라면 그의 작품 안에 정신이 깃든다.” 달리 표현해보자면, 예술가는 작품 속에 행보를 기록한다고 이해할 수 있다.

 

문득 “신스팝 밴드 글렌체크”란 상투어를 떠올랐다. “브릿팝의 전설 데이먼 알반”이란 문구처럼 기만적이라고 생각한다. 아티스트가 보여준 여러 음악 스타일이 수식어 하나에 숨 죽어버리기 때문이다.

글렌체크는 지금까지 다양한 장르를 시도해왔다. 신곡 ‘4ever’도 그 연장선이다. 과거 김준원이 믹스테이프에 담았던 알앤비 스타일을 밴드의 일렉트로니카 사운드로 한층 더 진화시켰다. 그러면서 뜨거웠던 여름의 정취를 우리에게 아련히 선사한다. ‘4ever’는 안주하지 않는 정신과 그 행보를 담아낸 음의 기록이다.
