미국의 팝 가수 Lady Gaga(레이디 가가)는 4살 때부터 피아노를 배우고 예술 학교에 진학해 음악을 전공해 예술, 종교, 정치 등 다양한 문제들에 대해 직접 에세이를 적으며 싱어송라이터로서 실력을 연마했다. Britney Spears, NKOTB, Fergie, Fussycat Dolls 등의 앨범에 자신의 곡을 제공하면서 이름을 알렸다.

 

그는 2008년, 첫 번째 앨범 [The Fame]으로 데뷔, 메타크리틱 71점을 받으면서 평단에 좋은 평가를 받았고 미국, 영국, 캐나다 등 15개국 이상의 나라에서 차트 5위에 오르면서 최고의 히트 앨범으로 부각되었다. 첫 싱글 'Just Dance'로 미국, 영국 차트 정상에 올랐으며, 두 번째 싱글 'Poker Face'로 "그래미 어워드" 베스트 댄스 레코딩을, 앨범으로 "최우수 일렉트로닉 댄스 앨범으로 선정되며 스타급 뮤지션의 반열에 올랐다.

2011년 5월에 그녀의 2집 [Born This Way]가 공개되었고 선공개 곡 'Born This Way', 'Judas', 'The Edge of Glory', 'You And I', 'Marry The Night'까지 5곡의 싱글이 모두 히트하는 기록을 새우며 세계적으로 6백만 장의 판매고를 올렸다. 2012년부터 펼친 월드투어 "Born This Way Ball"을 서울 잠실 공연으로 시작해 화제를 모으기도 했다.

2013년 3집 [Artpop]을 발매, 발매 첫 주에 25만 장 이상의 판매를 거두며 빌보드 앨범 차트 1위로 데뷔했으며 첫 싱글 'Applause'와 R.Kelly가 피처링한 'What Do You Want'가 히트를 기록했다. 대선배인 Tony Bennett과 함께 듀엣 앨범 [Cheek to Cheek]와 [Joanne] 역시 차트 1위에 올랐다. 2018년 영화 "Star Is Born"에 출연하면서 배우 커리어를 시작, "골든글로브"와 "아카데미 시상식" 주제가상을 받는 등 배우와 영화 음악 작곡가로서도 인정을 받았다. 2020년 5월, Ariana Grande, BLACKPINK, Elton John이 피처링으로 참여한 6집 [Chromatica]로 자신만의 음악 세계, 크로마티카를 표현했다.
